Analysis of Five Key Process Control Points for Wave Welding

Oct 17,2024

1、 Introduction

Wave soldering, as a crucial process in electronic manufacturing, plays a decisive role in ensuring a stable connection between electronic components and printed circuit boards. The welding quality directly affects the performance and reliability of electronic products. By precisely controlling key process parameters such as welding temperature, speed, and flux usage, wave soldering technology can achieve high-quality welding results, significantly improve production efficiency, and reduce defect rates. Therefore, wave soldering technology plays a crucial role in the field of electronic manufacturing and is a key factor in ensuring the quality and production efficiency of electronic products.

2、 Five key process control points for wave soldering

1. Temperature control

Preheating temperature: generally set between 110-130 degrees Celsius, with a preheating time of 1-3 minutes, in order to activate the active agent of the flux and reduce thermal shock.

Welding temperature: usually 50-60 degrees higher than the melting point of the solder to ensure that the solder reaches a suitable melting state and avoid welding point problems.

2. Flux control

Flux density: Control between 0.5-0.8g/cm ³ to ensure uniform coating of flux on the PCB.

Coating methods: including foaming method, wave crest method, spray method, etc. spray method can be used to coat more evenly and save flux.

3. Peak morphology and speed management

Peak height: Adjust according to the thickness of the printed circuit board, generally 1/2-1/3 of its thickness, to avoid solder leakage and excessive tin stacking.

Transfer speed: controlled between 0.3-1.2m/s, adjusted according to specific situations to avoid problems caused by improper welding time.

4. Welding environment control

Maintain a clean and stable welding environment, avoiding the impact of dust, humidity, and temperature fluctuations on welding quality.

Regularly remove peak solder slag to prevent oxide accumulation.

5. Equipment selection and operation

Choose equipment with advanced sensors and control systems to ensure the precision of process control.

Operators should strictly follow the operating specifications to ensure the normal operation and welding quality of the equipment.

3、 Conclusion

In short, the successful application of wave soldering technology relies on strict control of five key process control points: temperature, flux, wave shape and speed, soldering environment, and equipment selection and operation. Only by ensuring precise control of these key points can the welding quality and product reliability of wave soldering be guaranteed, providing strong support for the development of the electronic manufacturing field.
